Edsall Walker
Edsall was a pitcher and an outfielder for the Homestead Grays. He lived in Albany, New York and was a legend there for his athletic prowess. He was a football player a boxer and mainly a pitcher when playing baseball. He was called the “Catskill Wild Man” because he walked so many men. He had a great arm and was a southpaw. In 1937, he went 7-1, and in 1938, he was undefeated with a 10-0 record which earned him to be the starting pitcher for the 1938 East-West All-Star game.
In May of 1991, I was at a card signing in Albany, N.Y. featuring Edsall Walker, Leon Day, Monte Irvin, Armando Vazquez, and Willie Mays. We celebrated Willie's 60th birthday that day with a cake and all the trimmings.
Edsall was a fine man and a really good pitcher who loved throwing inside and never backed down from anyone.
