Henry Kimbro

I drove to Nashville Tennessee to meet the great Negro League outfielder Henry Kimbro at his gas station. When I arrived, I immediately recognized him. He was a short. stocky. strong man with a gruff disposition. Gruff upon meeting him but he warmed up real quick as we spoke together. I told him we were making Negro League baseball cards, etc. and asked if he'd like to be a part of it. I explained that because of the baseball card craze and the autographs seekers, he'd need something to sign at these shows. He was all in and he appeared in numerous cities with his card in tow. At these events he would see his old friends and teammates.

Once gruff, not anymore as he and his friends enjoyed these gatherings. It was wonderful to see old friends being old friends.

He was one of the great outfielders from the 1940s. He was a line drive hitter and was a great base stealer. He appeared in multiple all star games and played mainly with the Baltimore Elite Giants.
