Johnny Kemp
Johnny and I first met when I hired him to sing a commercial for me. He was a great singer and had the sweetest, coolest way about him. He had a great sense of humor and was a very deep thinker. We clicked on almost every level and we became lifelong friends and writing partners. We wrote a number of songs together and went to many bars and clubs together and enjoyed each other's company needless yo say. Johnny was like a brother to me. As a matter of when my brother Peter Berg the artist died from a brain tumor in 1997, Johnny sang at his funeral. We had a deep friendship and his sons Jason and Jarred and his wife Deirdre are like family to me.
Johnny died tragically from drowning after hitting his head after slipping on rocks late at night while walking near the coast of Montego Bay in Jamaica.
This was another loss to me and all who knew Johnny Kemp.
Once again I had to paint my friend. When I paint friends, I like to adorn my walls with the paintings, as it makes me feel warm and I reflect on the great times we had and that makes me smile.
